Google's “Quantum Supremacy”

In October 2019, Google unveiled its Sycamore processor and claimed to have achieved so-called “quantum supremacy”: solving, in a matter of minutes, a very specific calculation that would take a traditional supercomputer an enormously longer time. The announcement went around the world and sparked debate about what quantum computers will—and won’t—be able to do.
